It’s been at least 3 years since a friend of mine (Bryan Bingham) and I stopped working on Pocket Dynasty Football. The game was essentially a turn-based mobile football game where a player would pick plays for 1st, 2nd and 3rd down and send them off. They would then play a series of mini-games based on the plays they picked that would determine how many yards they would get on these plays. But, their opponent would do the same thing (pick 3 plays and do their own mini-games) and the actual yardage totals would be the outcome of the results from both players. It was a pretty cool concept, but we were in a little over our heads as far as time was concerned. It’s pretty typical, but our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, or whatever that saying is-if you think about that, I mean, how big would your eyes have to be, that would be freakish.
So, here we are a few years later, and the original PDF stalled out a long time ago. We were in active development for at least 4-5 months and really only got a small fraction of the game done. We’re considering that version of the game dead, and I know that Bryan has moved on to other projects as well. But I’ve always wanted to make a football game and I’ve shifted my focus to a management sim-style game. It’s a lot more in my wheelhouse as it will be less animation intensive and it would be much more achievable to have it be web-based, as I am a web developer by trade.
On top of that, there is an enormous amount of opportunity to create an American Football management-sim game. There have been games like NFL Head Coach and even Front Page Football, but it has been nearly a decade since those games came out. There a few other games currently out, but the reviews are mediocre at best. And for me, it’s not about making a game to make money. I just love these types of games and I love football, so I just want to make the game that I know that I would enjoy.
So, here we go. It’s going to be a long process. A looooooooooooooooooooooong process. I have a bunch of other things that I’m working on, but this will be one of them and it will be a big focus. Wish me luck. Not luck. Wish me perseverance.
